POSITION SUMMARY: Shelter Advocate will provide crisis intervention, direct service and systems advocacy to battered women and their children living in a shelter setting The Refuge services: develop and implement networking and outreach efforts; and insure accurate data collection. Work is routinely checked for quality and a yearly performance evaluation is completed. The Shelter Advocate will work at the shelter. The Refuge Network Policies and Procedures and general instructions from the Shelter Assistant Manager. The Shelter Advocate has some latitude to exercise independent judgment within the scope of established policies and procedures.

A. Service and Operations - 40%
ï‚· Provide crisis intervention, direct client advocacy and support services to victims of domestic violence
ï‚· Supervise daily living activities at the shelter
ï‚· Conduct intake/discharge procedure with each woman entering the shelter, making assessments of needs and then assuring appropriate referrals and services
ï‚· Assist in the progression and completion of goals established by each shelter resident
ï‚· Complete a safety plan with all residents
ï‚· Insure each woman in the shelter is included and given individual attention
ï‚· Facilitate structured family activities if able to do so
ï‚· Provide transportation for clients as needed

B. Customer Service – 25%

C. Community/Advocacy/Volunteers – 25%
ï‚· Represent The Refuge Network on local task forces, committees, etc. as assigned
ï‚· Provide community education on family violence and The Refuge Network as assigned
ï‚· Maintain professional and positive working relationships with co-workers, systems people and the general public
ï‚· Recruit financial donations as opportunities arise
ï‚· Attend and participate in fundraising efforts as directed

D. Administrative – 10%
ï‚· Facilitate support and parenting help as needed Properly document all incidents, follow accident prevention policies to ensure that no one is unduly exposed to preventable injuries
ï‚· Create and maintain client files as needed for agency information system
ï‚· Keep accurate statistics, complete and record in data base before the end of your shift
ï‚· Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
ï‚· High school diploma and program experience preferred
ï‚· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with basic computer skills
ï‚· Ability to maintain confidentiality with client and agency sensitive information, while effectively communicating with others to assure positive outcomes
ï‚· Reliable transportation, insurance and a clean driving record
ï‚· Ability to work independently or as part of a time to prioritize duties
