REPORTS TO: Director of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services

SALARY: $52,000 Annual

POSITION OBJECTIVE: The Shelter Manager is responsible for program management and supervision to ensure the safe and effective operation of the Black Dog Hill shelter. Our shelter provides individuals and families impacted by domestic and sexual violence. As a member of the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services (DVSA) leadership team you will help ensure coverage of on-call and after hour coverage for the department programs. The Shelter Manager will perform their roles and responsibilities in-line with Family Pathways mission, vision, while utilizing our guiding principles.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Management (40%)

  • Ensure the delivery of person-centered, healing, strength-based, trauma informed services through clear program procedures, guidelines, and standards.
  • With the Director of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services (DVSA) evaluate, develop, modify, and implement program services.
  • Coordinate the implementation and completion of program goals related to the organization’s strategic plan, grant requirements and other initiatives.
  • Conduct regular case planning meetings with staff, evaluating participant progress to ensure effective services are being delivered based on best practices and program outcomes are being met.
  • Provide on-call support 24/7 as needed for the department and respond to crisis calls, emergencies and urgent shelter/client needs.
  • Coordinate and facilitate conflict resolution between shelter residents when necessary.
  • Manage and safeguard client confidential information appropriately and maintain accurate records in reporting systems such as ‘VELA’.
  • Actively participate in Day One and similar programs and activities.

 

Personnel Management (30%)

  • Directly supervises Assistant Shelter manager, staff, and volunteers. Providing leadership, support, coaching, recognition and consultation.
  • Recruit, screen, hire, onboard, and train assigned staff and volunteers and maintain regular contact.
  • Initiate, model, inspire, and monitor a professional relationship and environment such as positivity and respect for staff, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Assure staff is effectively providing individual advocacy and support to clients in accordance with program philosophy, policies, and procedures.
  • Support healthy internal working relationships; facilitate conflict resolution sessions with staff and clients as needed.
  • Facilitate staff meetings as needed, coordinate staff training, professional development, and wellness support.
  • Manage staffing schedule, approving time-off and payroll.
  • Track and report monthly volunteer utilization.

 

Administration (15%)

  • Prepare and maintain accurate and timely data in appropriate systems (VELA, eGrants, etc.) for reports as needed for contracts, grants, and internal documents.
  • Compile and analyze statistical data to ensure outcomes for programs are being met.
  • Assist in the development of program and department annual budgets and the monitoring of approved budget for fiscal responsibility.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff and agency meetings as required, including department meetings, Leadership Team, and regularly scheduled supervisor meetings.
  • Assist in development, roll out, and support agency policies and procedures.
  • Participate in grant writing as directed.
  • Maintain client files, agency files, statistics, forms, and other record keeping as required.

 

Property Management (10%)

  • Ensure a safe and clean shelter and property environment for living and working.
  • Coordinate purchasing of food, supplies and other necessities for operations of the shelter and clients.
  • Respond to maintenance needs of shelter buildings, grounds and equipment and inform the facilities coordinator and the department director.
  • Develop and maintain shelter property and fleet maintenance logs.

 

Community Engagement (5%)

  • Coordinate with the Director of DVSA to provide outside agencies and community groups with education and collaboration regarding DVSA services.
  • Maintain access to educational materials and handouts to be used in professional training, public presentations, and educational groups.
  • Professionally represent Family Pathways to customers, clients, donors, vendors, and the public while participating at community-based meetings, conferences, and trainings.
  • Cultivate and maintain collaborative relationships with partners, community task forces, committees and with stakeholders who interface with domestic violence prevention and intervention work.
  • Participate in department and agency marketing, fundraising, events, and activities as directed.

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher and/or equivalent related work experience in domestic violence, sexual assault or human services field.
  • 2 years of experience in direct supervision and management of staff and volunteers, budgets, and public relations.
  • Familiar with trauma-informed, client-centered, strength-based and empowerment models.
  • Experience providing advocacy to victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault in a professional setting.
  • A leader and team player committed to advancing vision, mission, values and guiding principles.
  • Demonstrated passion to work with diverse and/or low-income populations, including those experiencing food insecurity, homelessness, domestic violence and/or mental illness.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information and confidential matters.
  • Ability to plan, direct and review the work of others with confidence and clarity.
  • Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal, listening, and communication skills.
  • Organized and works well under pressure and ability to manage multiple projects/deadlines.
  • Must have a dependable vehicle, a current and valid MN state driver’s license and proof of insurance.
  • Position requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time, close vision, ability to adjust focus and see color.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
