REPORTS TO: Chief Executive Officer

SALARY: Commensurate salary with experience and Family Pathways pay structure

ORGANIZATIONAL MISSION:  Family Pathways works with communities to develop supportive, caring relationships to help people meet their basic needs. This is done by offering a safety-net of essential services.

 

POSITION OBJECTIVE: The Director of Development is responsible for preparation, planning and implementation of a comprehensive resource development strategy and operating plan to retain and expand philanthropic support for Family Pathways.  This position is responsible for management of all components of the development program including individual, corporate/business and faith community giving, corporate and foundation grants, special events and campaigns, community fundraising and planned giving.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Philanthropic Support (60%)

  • Work closely with the CEO to develop and prioritize comprehensive best practice strategies to advance philanthropic support through financial donations, in-kind giving, volunteering and other forms of involvement
  • Lead department staff, volunteers and CEO to develop and implement resource development strategies and/or special campaigns encompassing all constituencies to achieve revenue goals
  • Partner with the marketing team to develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and PR strategy to elevate the visibility of Family Pathways in the community and increase the donor base of support
  • Collaborate with other departments to develop and implement a comprehensive community engagement strategy and marketing plan which effectively advances the strategic business and program priorities and goals of the organization
  • Team up with the CEO to identify, cultivate, maintain and steward relationships with current and prospective donors to deepen their connection to and level of engagement in Family Pathways
  • Strengthen and manage donor recognition and stewardship program through innovative and fresh tactics while remaining grounded in best practice
  • Identify new funding opportunities  for all programs through research
  • Engage Board of Directors and other key stakeholders in donor development and philanthropic strategies and activities

 

Special Events (30%)

  • Develop opportunities for corporate, faith, youth and service organization engagement through volunteering. Collaborate with leadership team to develop and cultivate a group volunteer program, including promotion, internal planning, project coordination, collaboration between departments, scheduling and on-site group management.
  • Coach team to effectively deliver the organization’s mission and vision through group volunteer interaction, including day of event and pre/post-event communication and recognition
  • Assure collaboration with the marketing staff and leadership team to promote group activities, opportunities and partners through traditional and social media and communication mechanisms
  • Manage team to promote and coordinate community participation in food and fund drives (and other in-kind) while effectively tracking participation
  •  Lead and coordinate special events including goal setting, event logistics, vendors, expense/revenue tracking and reports, sponsorships and volunteer coordination and management
  • Develop and manage a system for strategic re-engagement for events, group volunteer and food and fund drives (and other in-kind)

 

Administration (10%)

  • Lead department team in annual planning in alignment with organization’s strategic plan and annual priorities. Actively participate on the leadership team in organizational strategic planning
  • Lead the department team and cooperate with CEO and finance staff in annual budgeting planning in alignment with organization’s strategic plan and annual priorities
  • Monitor and manage annual department expenses and budget in cooperation with Director of Finance and Administration
  • Provide to CEO and relevant committees/teams monthly fundraising progress reports and timely event/campaign debriefs that tracks outcomes year over year
  • Oversee data management and information systems for accurate gift accounting, timely donor acknowledgement and reporting in cooperation with finance staff
  • Manage timely and relevant donor correspondence, including gift acknowledgement and annual giving
  • Create and manage an annual grants strategy utilizing a calendar and tracking mechanism, including prospecting, writing and reporting.
  • Partner across departments to monitor and manage organizational contracts where appropriate
  • Administer annual Performance Appraisals of supervised employees in addition to ongoing team member coaching, mentoring and performance management
  • Participate in Finance Committee meetings and present a monthly report on charitable contributions and activities
  • Participate in a leadership role on leadership team and staff meetings, and others as necessary
  • Communicate success across departments, as well as discuss areas of needed improvement with whomever necessary to improve processes, procedures and outcomes.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
 

Required:

  • Minimum BS degree in communications, public relations or related non-profit field, and 7 years’ experience.
  • Master’s degree and/or 10+ years’ experience in nonprofit development preferred
  • Completion of mini MBA and/or participation in professional trainings in fundraising and related preferred
  • Experience with a donor tracking software system like Fundraising 50 or related software required
  • Strong skills in donor engagement and stewardship with the ability to “make the ask”
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, experience with Adobe products
