REPORTS TO: Community Advocacy Manager

WAGE: $21.00/Hour

POSITION OBJECTIVE: The Community Advocate Lead is responsible for providing crisis intervention, personal and legal advocacy, youth intervention, court support and systems advocacy for individuals affected by domestic violence and/or sexual assault. In addition, they will provide guidance and support with day-to-day operations of designated Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (DVSA) community offices. They will incorporate and promote Family Pathways Mission, Vision, and Guiding Principles.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Programming and Advocacy (65%)

  • Provide guidance, support, assistance, and training to Community Advocates.
  • Assist with day-to-day operations, in consultation, with the Community Advocacy Manager and the Director of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services.
  • Provide outreach advocacy services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in particular ensuring services are provided for victims that are hard-to-reach.
  • Provide crisis intervention and empowerment based, trauma informed advocacy and direct service to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
  • Record relevant client demographics, service usage, referrals and provide monthly, quarterly, and annual reports in a timely manner.
  • Ensure department resource directories and publications have correct information and are accessible to all Community Advocates and at each community office.
  • Provide information and education to Community Advocates to understand the dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault.
  • Effectively triage priorities and multi-task as needed.
  • Collaborate with Community Advocates to review client cases and make recommendations to aid client success.
  • Encourage teamwork by modeling cooperative interaction with colleagues, volunteers, and community members.
  • Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and integrity of sensitive information always.
  • Maintain a welcoming, peaceful, healing office environment for clients.
  • Attend and participate in All-Staff and supervision meetings, trainings and in-services as directed.

 

 

Community Relations (20%)

  • Engage in community networking, events, and activities as assigned to increase awareness of services for individuals, families, and youth.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with community partners and stakeholders, such as participating in local multi-disciplinary teams, outreach efforts, and speaking engagements.
  • Gather and maintain educational materials and handouts for staff education, professional training, public presentations, and educational groups. Develop and maintain community collaborations with stakeholders.
  • Solicit, receive, record, deposit, and acknowledge donations. Financial contributions must follow accountability policy and procedures in a timely manner.
  • Maintain professional behavior, dress and conduct in all aspects of work with clients, community, and stakeholders.

Administration (15%)

  • Read and communicate through email, online platforms (Teams/Zoom), text etc. with DVSA team; manage and keep your calendar current throughout workday.
  • Ensure necessary electronic entries and reporting requirements for the department, agency, and partner agencies are completed without error and in a timely fashion.
  • Complete documentation to ensure compliance with agency standards. Comply with funder, state, and federal rules, laws, and regulations.
  • Complete agency forms to document critical incidents or injury and notify supervisor immediately.
  • Adhere to and promote Family Pathways and DVSA department and personnel policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and work as a team member with staff, volunteers, and administration.
  • Assist in up-keep of the office and grounds. Report needed repairs to supervisor.
  • Support and fill in for the Community Advocacy Manager and Community Advocates when necessary.
  • Assist with DVSA staff recruiting, screening, onboarding, training, and maintaining consistent contact.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree in human services or 2 years’ experience in human service field, preferably providing domestic violence or sexual assault advocacy.
  • Experience working with people who are managing crisis.
  • Must have a dependable vehicle, a current and valid Driver’s License and proof of insurance.
  • Familiar with trauma-informed, client-centered, strength-based and empowerment models.
  • Sensitivity and knowledge of the issues regarding domestic violence and sexual assault.
  • A team player committed to advancing agency Mission, Vision, and Guiding Principles.
  • Demonstrated passion to work with diverse and/or low-income populations, including those experiencing food insecurity, homelessness, domestic violence and/or mental illness.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information and confidential matters.
  • Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; excellent listening skills.
  • Organized and works well under pressure and manage multiple projects/deadlines.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time, close vision with ability to adjust focus.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe products.
